Slightly disappointing numbers for the 40th running of the event with a few of the regular teams absent. It was lucky I had downloaded the start list into my tablet before the power cut which struck while we were putting out the flags. This meant the event could go ahead without problems.
Thanks as usual to the helpers, Rob Henderson and Daniel Muenstermann, and the couple of people I roped in on the day, sorry I didn't get your names. Also a big thanks to the people who collected in the flags so quickly. Rob and I took a moment out today to remember our colleague Gareth Hughes who passed away this year. Although not a runner himself, he always helped out at the race if he could.
No records broken this year either despite the good conditions, except possibly in number of teams from one department, with maths putting in an amazing 5 teams. Congratulations none the less to the prize winners, one of whom was not from maths, namely the well named "She who DARES wins" who took the ladies prize unopposed. With no LEC runners or Perpetual motion squad teams maths were able to pick up the age corrected prize as well as the open and mixed prizes this year.
