Somewhat less seasonal weather than last year, at least the rain held off even if there were strong winds to battle with. Luckily the ground was wet enough to let us get the stakes in this year. Thanks to Dick and Rob for helping with that.
Numbers were a bit down on last year, but it was good to see a few new teams entered, hope you come back again. Normally we run the event a week earlier, in week 9 but that was impossible this year. I don't know to what extent this effected numbers.
I mentioned last year that the last team to enter usually wins a prize. Clearly Patrick Brown had included this factor in his fiendish calculations to ensure optimum results for the Maths dept. which is why all four maths teams were entered last, and as you know all four of them won a prize. There are rumours that maths are now so keen to win they fly in runners from the U.S.A. just for the event. In fact Maths heterogenous won two classes, so we awarded a prize to the second open team instead, as they were only out sprinted in the last few yards by their colleagues. The third team overall was also the top team in the 'corrected time' category.
The Maths department even bring their own team photographer these days - see his pictures on the maths web site
Thanks as usual are due to the helpers on the day, as well as Rob and Dick, there were Tim, James and Brian helping to ensure things ran without a hitch.
