We’ve become obsessed with race to the point of all else. Race is the entirety of American social study. All of this, including the general categorization, is a result of the discomfort blacks and whites have had as a result of slavery and its eventual abolition. Pro racialism, anti-racialism, anti-racist affirmative action, racist affirmative action, race, race, race. No other Western society is as self-consumedly obsessed with race and racialism – either absolute denial of it or absolute exaggeration of it – as our society is obsessed. We even descend into absurdity when we then apply the “race” label to Hispanics, who cross all kinds of racial boundaries internally as a group. It’s malarky to use race as a cultural moniker most of the time, triply so when used to look at Hispanics. I don’t, and have never, identified Whites as my “group”. I know for a fact that I have more culturally in common with a black man who went to the same school as me than I do with a bleach-white French man or a Spanish-pure-blood Mexican. Being proud of your own race. WTF? Be proud of yourself. If some white guy wins a competition, it reflects absolutely not at all on you.
